Swap out your everyday products for these sustainable options!

#SustainableSaturday! Did you know over the holidays, about 227,000 miles worth of wrapping paper gets thrown away? That's enough to circle the world 9 times! AND the majority of wrapping paper cannot be recycled because it's dyed, laminated, or contains non-paper additives. But a piece of newsprint can be recycled up to 7 times! Its printing requires less energy and uses gentler, soy-based inks. So the awesome people at @wrappily have created awesome prints on recycled newspaper using old newspaper presses! And we're stoked because we just found out they are located in Hawaii too ??! But do order soon if you want it in time for Christmas! Do you have any sustainable products that you love and think should be featured? Use the hashtag #KeikoSustainableSaturdays and we might feature your favorite products! These features cannot be bought for advertisements and are found purely on word of mouth and research :).

? Here's a scary fact for your Halloween night. Over 500 million plastic straws are used in America EVERY DAY! And that's not even including products that come with them attached (juice boxes, etc.). And if you've seen how damaging straws can be on our wildlife, environment, and even our own bodies then that fact should terrify you. If you haven't, you may want to google Straw Sea Turtle Video. This week's #SustainableSaturday is on @simplystraws. Next time you're out and about and order a drink from a movie theater or coffee shop try telling them to please not include a straw and try this company's durable glass ones instead. They've gone the extra mile to be eco-friendly and inspire other companies to do the same. "Our products are reusable, sustainable, durable, biodegradable and handmade with intention in USA. Our colors are non-toxic, our materials bpa free, our sleeves made from fair-trade, organic hemp, flax, and cotton. Our web hosting and printing powered by eco energy, we use non-toxic dyes and fsc certified 100% post consumer recycled paper for business material. All packaging is compostable." Carrying around a glass straw may be seen as a hassle for some, but every single plastic straw unused is potentially one less inside the ocean and its wildlife. And hopefully if enough people realize this, stores and restaurants will begin to order or produce less and less or also switch to an ecofriendly alternative. Save a straw, save a life ????. Remember Keiko's Sustainable Saturdays feature can't be bought by brands for advertising but you can always suggest your favorite sustainable brands for us to choose from! Use the tag #KeikoSustainableSaturdays.

For this week's #SustainableSaturdays we set out to find the perfect reef safe/people safe sunscreen on the market! It's incredible that not only do we have to worry about chemicals in sunscreen doing more harm than good for our skin, but also to our ocean's PH levels and reef health. For the best protection for your skin look for sunscreen without harmful chemicals (No Parabens. No avobenzone or oxybenzone. No Nano particles.) Also be sure to check if your sunscreen is reef safe by looking out for coral bleaching chemicals such as these 4 common sunscreen ingredients: Oxybenzone (benzophenone-3), Butylparaben, Octinoxate, and 4-methylbenzylidene camphor. We were thrilled to come across a skin care line that not only follows all of this criteria but is locally owned and operated on Maui! We'd like to introduce you to Maui Natural Sunscreen and Maui Surfer Honey Sunscreen by Maui Natural Organics. To our knowledge they don't have an IG page but you can get their products on their site Mauirain.com or their Facebook page! ??. Make the switch, the environment will thank you !! Ever thought of how much impact your consumer products have on the environment? A ton! We are using sustainable Saturday's to find and broadcast more sustainable products that you can use to replace your less environmentally friendly products - therefore, limiting your impact on the environment. This week we'd like to introduce everyone to this amazing razor that we recently found. These eco-friendly razors are brought to you by @preserveproducts and include handles made from 100% recycled yogurt cups.
